Q) How do I obtain an evaluation license?
A) You can get a trial license automatically be following these steps.

Go to the webpage www.safe.com/trial and fill in some basic information to request your trial and download the FME Desktop Installer. If you have already installed FME you do not need to install it again.

After installing FME the licensing assistant should start automatically. You can start the licensing wizard manually from: Programs > FME Desktop > Utilities > FME Licensing Assistant

In the first panel of the Licensing Assistant you can select Activate a trial version of FME where you can paste code that is emailed to you.
Note: Alternately you may request an evaluation license by writing directly to sales@safe.com or contacting your Safe Software reseller or account manager directly.
Q) Can I use my evaluation license to carry out actual work?
A) No - FME evaluation licenses are intended solely for the purposes of evaluating the software to determine if it is something you wish to purchase. But remember fmepedia is not the definitive source of information for questions of this type, so check out our
Software License Agreement (SLA) for full legal details.
Q) I wanted a 14 day evaluation – but I installed the license and it is only for 2 days! Why?
A) The timeout period for an evaluation license starts from the date we generate the license, not from the time you install it – so if you don’t install the license until twelve days after receiving it then there’ll only be two days left.
Q) Is there anything important I need to know about evaluation licensing?
A) The system date of your computer must be correct before installing an evaluation license.
If you run FME with an evaluation license that does not cover the current system date then it will 'time-out' and you'll not be able to use that license at all (and possibly any other evaluation license)!
Q) After purchasing FME how do I obtain my permanent license?
A) We supply you with a temporary license until your payment clears. Then we will send you the permanent license.
You can also request your permanent license using the option in the Licensing Assistant by selecting
Activate a single-fixed license and entering your serial number.
NB: If you email us requesting a permanent license file send the email to codes@safe.com. The Support team are not able to issue permanent licenses.
Q) After evaluating FME I purchased it and installed my permanent license. However FME still says it is a temporary license. Why?
A) FME always uses the higher edition of license. In some cases this will be the evaluation license. When the evaluation period expires FME will revert to the permanent license.
So, for example, if you were evaluating the FME Oracle Edition and purchased the FME Professional Edition, the Oracle license would continue until it expires.
If your evaluation license expires, and the permanent license fails to kick-in, then let us know asap via codes@safe.com or support.
