Symptoms
FME 2011 no longer seems to be able to extend MapGuide 6.5 or Enterprise.
Cause
In FME 2011, we made a change to the licensing requirements for extending MapGuide 6.5 and MapGuide Enterprise. In the past, a "FME Provider for MapGuide" license will give a user extending access to both MapGuide 6.5 and Enterprise. It was decided that we want to retire that edition of licensing, so the change in FME 2011 required that a user have an "ENTERPRISE_DB" base capability (ESRI or higher I think) to extend the two products.
This means that existing customers with the "FME Provider for MapGuide" license will no longer be able to extend either product with FME 2011. This is okay though because this means that existing customers would have to come to us for a different license, and would give us an opportunity to identify who is still using the legacy "FME Provider for MapGuide" license for creating MapGuide 6.5 SDP connections.
Resolution
Obtain a new license from sales with enterprise_db capability (ESRI or higher). Contact Stephen Wu or Fil Vera for more info.
Short explanation more suitable for typical end user:
FME 2011 no longer extends MapGuide 6.5 with the FME Provider for MapGuide license.
In FME 2011, a change was made to the licensing requirements for extending MapGuide 6.5 and MapGuide Enterprise. In the past, a "FME Provider for MapGuide" license gave a user access to extending both MapGuide 6.5 and Enterprise. FME 2011 now requires that a user have an "ENTERPRISE_DB" base capability (ESRI or higher I think) to extend the two products.
Existing customers now need to request a different license. This will also give us an opportunity to identify who is still using the legacy "FME Provider for MapGuide" license for creating MapGuide 6.5 SDP connections.
To obtain a new license please contact codes@safe.com and request a license with enterprise_db capability (ESRI or higher). Please include a note that this upgrade is required because we have retired the special FME Provider for MapGuide license edition.
